Drawing Tools

Lines, Rectangles, and Ellipses

Stitch A Lot Studio includes shape tools for drawing geometric forms on your canvas.

Line Tool (L)

The Line tool draws a straight line of stitches between two points.

  1. Select the Line tool (press L)
  2. Click where you want the line to start
  3. Drag to the endpoint — a live preview shows the line as you drag
  4. Release to place the stitches

The line uses Bresenham's algorithm to calculate a smooth, consistent path between the two points. All cells along the line are filled with the current color and stitch type.

Point Line Tool (J)

The Point Line tool creates connected multi-segment lines by clicking a series of points.

  1. Select the Point Line tool (press J)
  2. Click to place the first point
  3. Click to place additional points — a dashed preview line shows from your last point to the cursor
  4. Continue clicking to add more points
  5. Press Enter to commit the line, or press Escape to cancel

Point lines are stored as freeform lines with precise coordinates (not snapped to the grid), allowing smooth curves and paths. You need at least 2 points to finish a point line.

You can also finish by switching to another tool — the line is automatically committed if you have placed 2 or more points.

Rectangle Tool (R)

The Rectangle tool draws a filled rectangle of stitches.

  1. Select the Rectangle tool (press R)
  2. Click and drag from one corner to the opposite corner
  3. Release to place the rectangle

The rectangle is filled with the current color and stitch type.

Ellipse Tool (O)

The Ellipse tool draws a filled ellipse (oval) of stitches.

  1. Select the Ellipse tool (press O)
  2. Click and drag to define the bounding box of the ellipse
  3. Release to place the ellipse

When the width and height are equal, the ellipse becomes a perfect circle.
