Fill and Color Swap
The Fill and Color Swap tools help you quickly color large areas of your design.
Fill Tool (F)
The Fill tool flood-fills a connected area on the active layer with your selected color and stitch type.
How It Works
- Select a color in the Palette
- Select the Fill tool (press F or click it in the toolbar)
- Click on the canvas
- Click a stitch to replace the connected patch of stitches that share its color and stitch type
- Click an empty cell to fill all the connected empty cells
The fill spreads up, down, left, and right — not diagonally — and stops at color boundaries.
Filling Around Other Layers
Stitches on other visible layers act as walls. That means you can put a motif on one layer and fill the background around it on another.
Fill works only on the active layer, and does nothing on a locked layer.
Undo
The entire fill is a single undo step.
Color Swap Tool (C)
The Color Swap tool replaces every stitch of one color with another across the active layer.
How It Works
- Select the replacement color in the Palette
- Select the Color Swap tool (press C or click it in the toolbar)
- Click a stitch on the active layer that has the color you want to replace
Every stitch of that color on the active layer changes to your selected color. Unlike Fill, Color Swap is not limited to connected areas. Backstitch lines keep their color.
Use Cases
- Try a different thread color for a section of your design
- Correct a color choice after filling a large area
- Merge two similar colors into one
The entire swap is a single undo step.
