Select, Move, and Transform
The selection tools let you pick up parts of your design and move, resize, rotate, or transform them.
Select / Move Tool (V)
The Select tool lets you work with entire layers. Click on the canvas to select the layer at that point.
Moving
Click and drag to move all stitches on the selected layer to a new position.
Resizing
When a layer is selected, 8 resize handles appear around the bounds:
- Corner handles — Resize while maintaining aspect ratio (hold Shift to resize freely)
- Edge handles — Resize in one direction only
Drag any handle to resize the selection. The minimum size is 1 stitch.
Rotating
A rotation handle appears at the center of the selection. Drag it to rotate the stitches around the center point. A live preview shows the rotation as you drag.
Multi-Layer Selection
Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) and click layers in the Layers panel to select multiple layers at once. Group operations (move, delete) apply to all selected layers.
Area Select Tool (S)
The Area Select tool lets you select a rectangular region of stitches.
- Select the Area Select tool (press S)
- Click and drag to draw a selection rectangle
- Release to select all stitches within the rectangle
The selection extracts stitches from all visible layers within the bounds. Once selected, the stitches become a "floating selection" that you can:
- Move — Click inside the selection and drag to reposition
- Resize — Use the 8 resize handles around the selection
- Commit — Press Enter or click outside the selection to place the stitches on the canvas
- Cancel — Press Escape to discard changes and restore the original stitches
Additional Operations
From the toolbar, you can apply these operations to the current selection or selected layer:
- Duplicate — Create a copy of the selection
- Flip Horizontal / Vertical — Mirror the selection
- Rotate 90° CW / CCW — Rotate in 90-degree increments
- Center Horizontal / Vertical — Center the selection on the canvas
- Crop to Selection — Resize the canvas to fit the selected area
- Move to New Layer — Move the selected stitches to a new layer
