Drawing Tools

Eyedropper

The Eyedropper (I) picks up a color with one click or tap and makes it your drawing color.

Picking a Color

  1. Select the Eyedropper (press I or click it in the toolbar)
  2. Click or tap:
    • A stitch — its thread becomes the active color
    • Your tracing image — the closest DMC thread to that spot is found, added to the palette if it isn't there already, and made the active color

A small badge at the top of the canvas confirms what you picked (for example, "DMC 310 Black"). The toolbar then switches back to the tool you were using, so it's pick, then draw.

Picking a Color from Your Screen (Windows and Mac)

On Windows and Mac, a Sample from bar appears while the eyedropper is active, with two choices:

  • Canvas — Pick from stitches and tracing images, as above
  • Screen — Pick a color from anywhere on your screen: another app, a photo, or a website. The color is matched to the nearest DMC thread. Press Esc to cancel

Pressing I again while the eyedropper is active also starts a screen pick.

iPad and Android don't let apps read the rest of the screen, so there the eyedropper samples the canvas and your tracing image only.

Other Ways to Match a Color

To match a color you know by its hex, RGB, or LAB value, or to compare several close threads, use Tools > Color Matching. See Color Matching.
