Platform-Specific Guides

Android

Here are the details and tips specific to running StitchALot Studio on Android.

Installing

Install StitchALot Studio from Google Play, or download the .apk directly from stitchalot.com/download. See Downloading and Installing.

Choosing Where Your Patterns Live

The first time you open the app, it asks Where should your patterns live?

  • Choose Folder… (Recommended) — Pick a folder on your device, such as Documents. A StitchALot folder is created inside it for your designs (or, if you pick a folder already named StitchALot, it's used as is). Your designs stay put even if you uninstall the app
  • Use App Storage — Keep designs inside the app's private storage. They're removed if you uninstall the app

To change this later, open Settings and use Patterns Folder — Change Folder… or Use App Storage.

The app also offers once to add a shortcut to your Home screen.

Licensing

  • From Google Play: Tap Purchase Full Version to buy through Google Play, or Restore Previous Purchase on a new device with the same Google account. You can also Sign In to use a license from your StitchALot account
  • Direct download: Activate with a license key or your StitchALot account, the same as on Windows. See Free Trial and License Activation

Touch Gestures

GestureAction
TapPlace (or erase, or fill) one stitch, or select a tool
DragDraw continuously or move selections
Two-finger dragPan the canvas
PinchZoom in and out
Press and hold a design on the Home screenLift it to drag onto a folder (a quick swipe still scrolls)

A stylus works like a finger.

The File, Tools, Preferences, and Help menus are in the top bar. Tap a menu item with an arrow to open its submenu. Preferences opens the Settings window.

Importing and Exporting

  • File > Import uses Multiple Files… instead of Folder… — tap several files in the picker to import them all at once. Imports are saved into the folder you're viewing
  • PDF, SVG, JPEG, and PNG exports open the system save dialog so you can choose where to put the file
  • File > Export > StitchALot… opens the Share sheet

Fonts

The Text tool's Local tab lists the fonts built into your device. Google Fonts and stitch fonts work the same as on other platforms.

Updates

  • Google Play: Updates are installed by Google Play
  • Direct download: A Software Update notice appears when a new version is available. Tap Download Update to get the new .apk from stitchalot.com

There's no Help > Update Check item on Android.

Differences from Other Platforms

  • No iCloud Sync or StitchALot Cloud — Copy designs to other devices with File > Export > StitchALot…
  • Saved palettes stay on the device — Use Export colors as palette file… and Import palette file… to move them
  • Eyedropper — Samples the canvas and your tracing image only, and Color Matching has no eyedropper
