Downloading and Installing
StitchALot Studio is available for Windows, macOS, iPad, and Android. All the downloads are on stitchalot.com/download.
Windows
- Visit stitchalot.com/download and click the Windows download button.
- Run the downloaded installer (.exe file).
- If Windows shows Windows protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway. This appears because the app is new to Windows' download filter; it's safe to continue.
- Follow the installer prompts. StitchALot Studio installs for your user account only, so you don't need administrator rights. On the last page, tick Create desktop shortcut if you want one.
- Launch StitchALot Studio from the Start menu (or your desktop shortcut).
Updates on Windows
A few seconds after you launch the app, it checks stitchalot.com for a newer version. If there is one, a Software Update window shows your current version, the new version, and what's changed:
- Download Update — Opens the download page in your browser. Run the new installer to update; your designs and settings are kept
- Later — Reminds you next time
- Skip — Doesn't remind you about this version again
To check at any time, choose Help > Update Check.
macOS
There are two ways to install on macOS.
Option 1: Direct Download
- Visit stitchalot.com/download and click the macOS download button.
- Open the downloaded .dmg file.
- Drag StitchALot Studio to your Applications folder.
- The first time you open it, macOS asks you to confirm opening an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open.
The direct download checks for updates the same way as Windows: when a new version is out, the Software Update window offers to open the download page so you can install the new .dmg.
Updating from version 1.8.2 or earlier? The app is now called "StitchALot Studio" (with a space). After installing the new version, delete the old StitchALotStudio from your Applications folder. Your designs and settings aren't affected.
Option 2: Mac App Store
- Search for "StitchALot Studio" in the Mac App Store.
- Click Get to download and install.
- Launch it from your Applications folder or Launchpad.
The App Store version is updated by the App Store.
iPad
- Open the App Store on your iPad.
- Search for "StitchALot Studio" (or use the iPad link on stitchalot.com/download).
- Tap Get to download and install.
- Open the app from your Home Screen.
Updates are delivered through the App Store.
Android
There are two ways to install on Android.
Option 1: Google Play
- Open the StitchALot Studio listing on Google Play.
- Tap Install, then Open.
Updates are delivered automatically through Google Play.
Option 2: Direct Download
- Visit stitchalot.com/download and tap the Android download button to save the .apk file.
- Open it — tap the download notification, or find it in your Files / Downloads app and tap it.
- The first time, Android will say your browser "isn't allowed to install apps." Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then tap Back.
- Tap Install, then Open.
This step is only needed because the file comes from our website instead of Google Play, and you only do it the first time. The direct download version shows a Software Update notice when a new version is available.
First Launch
When you open StitchALot Studio for the first time, you'll see the welcome screen.
Windows, the Mac direct download, and the Android direct download:
- Start 7-Day Free Trial — Try every feature, no credit card required
- Activate License — If you already have a license key or a StitchALot account
- Purchase License — Opens the StitchALot website
iPad, the Mac App Store, and Google Play:
- Start 7-Day Free Trial
- Sign In — Use a license from your StitchALot account
- Purchase Full Version — Buy through the App Store or Google Play
- Restore Previous Purchase — If you bought before on the same Apple or Google account
A short guided tutorial then shows you around the app. On Android, you'll also be asked where to keep your patterns (see Android).
