Saving, Exporting, and Printing

Exporting Your Pattern

Export your pattern as a printable chart, an image, or a pattern-exchange file. Every format lives under File > Export.

Export Formats

FormatBest for
PDFA printable chart — a multi-page pattern book or a true-size vector chart
SVGA resolution-independent vector of the whole chart, for editing or overlaying
JPEG / PNGA flat-color image render (about 300 DPI)
1:1 PNGOne pixel per stitch — for print services that match pixel count to stitch count
OXSAn open cross-stitch file for exchanging with other software

Exporting a PDF

Go to File > Export > PDF to open the Export PDF dialog. It offers two paths, chosen with the PDF / True Size selector at the top.

PDF (multi-page chart)

A pattern book for stitching from, with readable cells and symbols. Choose which pages to include:

OptionDescription
Include preview pageA full-color cover preview of the finished design
Include grid preview pageFlat colors with gridlines (no 3D texture)
Include full chart pageThe whole pattern on a single page
Include color legendA reference table of every color with brand, code, name, and swatch
Include stitch counts per colorThe stitch count for each color
Include row/column numbersGrid numbering every 10 cells for easier counting
Use symbols (for B&W printing)Draw each color's symbol so the chart reads in black and white

The page size (Letter or A4) follows your Preferences setting. The dialog shows an estimated page count, and large patterns are split across multiple grid pages automatically.

True Size (vector chart)

A single, crisp vector chart where each cell is exactly 1/mesh-count inch, so it lines up with your canvas holes when printed at 100% / Actual Size (never "Fit to Page"). Options:

  • Include grid lines — minor every cell, major every 10
  • Transparent background — no canvas fill behind the stitches

For wide-format printers, the True Size path can place the entire pattern on one large custom-sized page.

Exporting Images (SVG, JPEG, PNG, 1:1 PNG)

File > Export > SVG / JPEG / PNG / 1:1 PNG save directly with sensible defaults:

  • SVG — a true-size vector (opaque background, no gridlines)
  • JPEG / PNG — a flat-color render at about 300 DPI
  • 1:1 PNG — one pixel per stitch

For more control — gridlines, the 3D tent-stitch texture, or a transparent background — open the Preview Canvas window first (see the Preview and 3D Tent Stitch View page) and use its Export buttons.

Trial Watermark

During the 7-day free trial, exported PDFs include a "TRIAL VERSION" watermark. Activating a license removes it from all future exports.

Exporting

Choose where to save the file. On iPad, the export is saved to your documents and can be shared with the Share sheet.
