Borders and Cross Lines

Borders and cross lines are decorative stitch types that can be combined with other stitches in the same cell.

Border Stitches (4 types)

Border stitches add thin lines along the edges of a cell:

  • Border (Top) — Line along the top edge
  • Border (Bottom) — Line along the bottom edge
  • Border (Left) — Line along the left edge
  • Border (Right) — Line along the right edge

Stacking Borders

You can add multiple borders to a single cell. For example, adding both a Top and Left border creates an L-shaped outline in the top-left corner. Add all four borders for a complete cell outline.

Borders can also be combined with other stitch types. A cell can have a square stitch for the fill color and border stitches in a different color for an outlined look.

Border Appearance

Borders are thin lines (approximately 20% of the cell width) that sit along the edge of the cell. They extend slightly beyond the cell boundary, which helps them connect visually with borders on adjacent cells to form continuous lines.

Cross Lines (2 types)

Cross lines draw diagonal lines across the cell:

  • Cross (TL-BR) — Diagonal from top-left to bottom-right
  • Cross (TR-BL) — Diagonal from top-right to bottom-left

Stacking Cross Lines

Both cross line types can be placed in the same cell to create an X pattern. You can also combine cross lines with other stitch types like squares and borders.
