Square and Circle Stitches
Stitch A Lot Studio includes 21 stitch types organized into six categories. This page covers the basic square and circle stitches.
Selecting a Stitch Type
Click the Stitch Type button in the left toolbar to open the stitch type selector. The selector shows all 21 types organized into sections. Click a type to select it — the currently active type has a blue highlight.
The selected stitch type applies to the Pencil, Fill, Line, Rectangle, and Ellipse tools.
Square Stitch
The Square stitch is the default and most common stitch type. It fills the entire canvas cell with a solid color. This is the standard stitch for most needlepoint designs.
Circle Stitch (Full)
The Circle stitch fills the entire cell with a circular shape. It looks like a rounded square and takes up the full cell, similar to the Square stitch but with rounded edges.
Small Circle Stitch
The Small Circle stitch places a small circle within the cell. Unlike the full circle, the small circle does not fill the whole cell — it occupies roughly one-ninth of the cell area.
9-Position Placement
Small circles have a unique placement feature. Each cell is divided into a 3×3 grid of positions:
| Left | Center | Right | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top | Top-Left | Top-Center | Top-Right |
| Middle | Middle-Left | Center | Middle-Right |
| Bottom | Bottom-Left | Bottom-Center | Bottom-Right |
When you use the Pencil tool with the Small Circle stitch type, the circle is placed in the position closest to where you click within the cell. This lets you place up to 9 circles in a single cell, each in a different position and potentially a different color.
This is useful for creating detailed designs, decorative accents, or fill patterns within individual cells.
