Overlay Images for Tracing
Overlay images let you place a reference picture behind your canvas to use as a tracing guide.
Adding an Overlay
- In the Layers panel, look for the Overlays section
- Click the + button to add a new overlay
- Select an image file from your device (maximum 10 MB)
The image appears behind your canvas grid, allowing you to draw stitches on top of it.
Adjusting the Overlay
Opacity
Use the opacity slider in the Layers panel to control how transparent the overlay is. Lower opacity makes the image more faded, so your stitches are easier to see on top.
Moving and Resizing
Select the Select/Move tool (press V) and click on the overlay to select it. Drag to reposition, or use the resize handles to change its size.
Visibility
Click the eye icon next to the overlay to toggle its visibility. This lets you quickly show or hide the reference image while working.
Locking
Click the lock icon to lock the overlay in place. This prevents accidentally moving or resizing it when you are drawing.
Multiple Overlays
You can add as many overlays as you need. Each overlay has its own opacity, position, and visibility settings. Use the up and down arrows to change the order.
Tips for Tracing
- Set the overlay opacity to around 30–50% for a good balance between seeing the reference and seeing your stitches
- Lock the overlay after positioning it so you do not accidentally move it while drawing
- Use the Grid toggle in the toolbar to see the stitch grid clearly over the overlay
- Overlays are not included in PDF exports or preview — they are only visible while editing
