1.6.1 Release Notes
A big update with a lot of new features and many fixes.
Export & PDF
Export → PDF is now one dialog with two paths. Charting — a multi-page chart with cover/preview page, full-chart page, color legend, stitch counts, row/column numbers, and optional B&W symbols — or True Size, a crisp vector chart at exactly 1/mesh-count inch per cell, so it lines up with canvas holes when printed at 100%.
Dramatically sharper printed charts, far smaller files. Chart pages are now true vector graphics instead of embedded images — razor-sharp symbols, gridlines, and numbers at any printer resolution.
Charts default to a "Large print" layout (bigger cells, bold symbols, heavy line every 5 cells); the denser "Compact" layout is still available. Row/column numbers now appear on all four sides, with a "Section N — Page X of Y" footer.
No more near-empty chart pages — wide or tall patterns are split into evenly sized sections instead of leaving a stretched sliver on the last page.
Every stitch exports as its true shape in vector PDF/SVG — beads (sized correctly, round vs. diamond), half/quarter stitches, borders, cross lines, and circles — and multiple stitches sharing a cell are all kept. Sharper symbols throughout: the star no longer prints identical to the diamond, half-filled circles render correctly, and letters/numbers are larger and bolder.
New "One Large Page · True Size" PDF puts the whole pattern on a single custom-sized page for large-format/wide printers (no footer caption; falls back to tiled for patterns over 200").
Export SVG from File → Export → SVG or the Preview window — a true-size, resolution-independent vector, genuinely transparent, honoring the gridline and transparent-background toggles.
JPEG, PNG, and 1:1 PNG export straight from the menu (~300 DPI flat render). 1:1 PNG now uses a transparent background so print services can tell empty canvas from white stitches, and is labeled "1:1 PNG (Print Services)".
PDF page size (Letter or A4) is now a saved preference that the chart actually honors (default Letter).
Fixes: accurate page estimate in the dialog; the color legend and stitch counts no longer vanish when the preview page is off (and the stray blank first page is gone); the footer no longer overlaps the last row of stitches; tinted/painted canvas color fills the chart pages again; the Section Map and small detail pages are crisp; no more faint white seams between cells. Mac's native Export menu now matches Windows. iPad: the "Generating image…" spinner no longer lingers behind the Share sheet.
Import
Import Stitchly patterns — File → Import → Stitchly, a single file or a whole folder at once. The full-stitch grid, canvas size, fabric count, and strand count come across; colors match your DMC library and get StitchAlot symbols. Unmatched colors let you use the closest palette color or keep a labeled grey placeholder; specialty threads (Satin/Étoile/Light Effects) match to their base DMC color with a note. Folder import shows progress and a summary and auto-resolves name clashes. (Backstitches and beads aren't imported yet — the import tells you when a pattern contains them.)
All imports now land in the folder you're viewing (OXS, StitchALot, and Stitchly), instead of jumping back to the top level.
Added DMC's 35 newer colors (codes 01–35) to the bundled thread library.
iPad: fixed not being able to pick
.stitchly/.oxsfiles (including iCloud files that hadn't downloaded yet).
Interface & Shapes
Delete a whole color's stitches at once — a rust ✕ on any in-use palette color erases every stitch of that color on the current layer (confirmed once, fully undoable; toggle under Settings).
New Shapes button in the left toolbar, plus an "Add Canvas as Shape" button that saves the current pattern to your shape library. New Heart, Star, and Triangle shapes, and the Clover is back. Importing a pattern as a shape now skips hidden layers, so the shape matches what you see.
Double-click a
.stitchalotfile to open it on Windows.New Help → About (app version + link to the forum); License and Update Check moved to the Help menu.
Press 0 to reset zoom to 100%. The Fill tool tooltip now shows the correct shortcut (F).
Fixed the Layers panel Delete button doing nothing when "Confirm Layer Delete" is enabled. The Thread Library "Add" button and the Preview window's export buttons no longer run off the panel edge. Mac: the app logo is back in the title bar.
Startup & performance
Fixed the startup flash on Windows — the window now appears exactly once, already at its remembered position and size, showing the branded splash, and the home screen is fully drawn as the splash fades.
Much faster pattern previews on large libraries, and the app stays responsive while they load.
iCloud sync (Mac & iPad)
Turn iCloud sync on or off yourself, browse your projects in iCloud Drive on the Mac, and combine projects across iCloud and local storage (folders included, with per-file conflict handling). Your on/off choice is now remembered across reinstalls and other devices, and you can keep a local copy when turning sync off. Sync-status icons on pattern cards, automatic download of not-yet-downloaded files, clearer "iCloud isn't reachable" messaging (covers iCloud Drive being off, not just signed out), and several prompt/conflict fixes.
Licensing
Fixed a licensed machine getting stuck at the activation screen after a long offline stretch — it now re-validates on launch and silently unlocks once it can reach the server again — and a rare "Could not save license data" startup error (license files are now written atomically and recover automatically).
iPad
Google font previews now render in the actual typeface, you can use fonts you installed yourself, and launch/window stability is improved on iPadOS 26.
